Here is a story about a double yellow-headed Amazon named Hazel.The petparent came into the store where I was working & stated he wanted to be rid of the parrot.I agreed to take Hazel.She was a SCREAMER!!I took her home & placed her in a large cage in the corner of the living room.Covered 3 sides of the cage to allow her to peak out.She observed us for a week & occassionally made a noise.When I would leave the house I would hear her screaming 7 blocks away.I left classical music on low & noted her screams were quieting.I spoke very low & she lowered her voice & leaned in to hear me.She started putting her talon out through the bars to me.I saw blisters that appeared like burns on her.I used a Q-tip & neosporin on her several times a day as I watched them heal.A few weeks later I was eating mac&cheese & she spoke in a very human voice"hi Hazel,You're a good girl,yes,you're a good girl". Her talon was reaching out to me. I stroked her & she kept talking.She wanted the food!
