My neighbor paused&asked if I needed her.I said,"Yes, I would like you to meet Hazel"as I ushered her to follow me to the front porch. There was Hazel talking away."Help, Help!! Let me out!I'm a good girl,Yes,Hazel's a good girl.hahahaha".etc.The neighbor was obviously shocked, dumbfounded. She told her party on the line she would call them back.I offered the information that Hazel was 14 yrs.at the time and that she was a perfect mimic. She can immitate voices, things, animals, sirens, etc. She then replied that she was on the phone with the police because it sounded like a child was calling for help. That she had seen me leave & thought...well,I could imagine. I assured her that there are no children tied up in the house. Hazel stayed with us another 4 yrs. for rehabilitation & then found a home with a vet. student who fell in love with her. I cried for months but knew she would be happy as an only child. I often wonder if I did the right thing though.I miss her.....
